Lumencor’s proprietary light engines are excitation subsystems. They include:
- a maximum of six light sources
- mirrors to direct the light and filters to define the bandpass
- an adapter to efficiently couple the light to a bioanalytical instrument
The optics and mechanics of coupling are optimized for a fluorescence microscope, high content screener, gene expression chip reader or for a customized tool designed to meet an individual need. All these elements combined constitute a light engine.
Lumencor’s light engine lifetime is on the order of 15,000 hours. That’s usable hours, essentially no warm up time required.
Light engines operate via electronic “shutters” within the microsecond time scale and afford fast on/off & intensity control.
Spectra X Light Engine™
Lumencor now offers the spectral breadth of an arc lamp and the flexibility of a filter wheel in it’s most powerful and comprehensive light engine design.
The SPECTRA X model has been released to afford the end user the ability to exchange single band pass filters within the light engine. These field replaceable filters mean Lumencor can offer as many as 21 different bandpasses for use within the visible spectrum. No moving parts reside in this SPECTRA model. Lumencor preserves performance in the form of cool, stable, robust, spectrally pure, powerful outputs and now allows the user to make his or her own choices about bandpass during use in the field. This additional flexibility allows individual users, core facilities and OEMs an adaptable solid state excitation subsystem on par with the flexibility of a filter wheel.
This product ships with six independent sources. A suite of seven filters, one for each color band, is included in the purchase. Additional filter paddles and filters may be purchased at any time to increase the range of bandpasses for the ensemble of sources within the light engine.
Each output in the optical train of the light engine remains aligned through filter exchanges, allowing the user to focus on their science and not the need to realign and maintain a light source.
Spectra Light Engine™
Lumencor’s light engines are unique, solid state illuminators, ideally suited for use with fluorescence microscopes and bioanalytical instruments. SPECTRA light engines enhance overall microscope performance and reduce cost. Flexible designs provide as few as two and as many as seven color bands with a variety of delivery optics.
The SPECTRA is optimized for the most common fluors and fluorescent proteins used in bioanalysis today. Bright outputs cover the visible spectrum and beyond, with particularly impressive performance in the typically underserved visible spectral regions- green, yellow and red. The optically independent outputs are well suited for both live and fixed cell analysis. Bandwidths for any SPECTRA light engine may be tailored for specific spectral needs.
All outputs are optimized for high performance in terms of stable, durable, powerful, switchable light. Output power is independently selectable for each color band. Micro-second switching among color bands (5-10 kHz) is enabled electronically- eliminating all mechanical shuttering. SPECTRA light engines are the ideal choice for customers who wish to address unique spectral bands with independent electronic control in systems critically synchronized with camera exposure times.
SPECTRA light engines may be used with any major brand microscope, connecting via direct couple, liquid light guide or optical fiber. SPECTRA light engines are pre-aligned, require no maintenance, and need no bulb replacements
Sola SM Light Engine™
The SOLA SM light engine is a high performance illumination source that’s as easy to operate as the light switch in your hallway. Powerful, solid state sources produce an intense spectrum of light from 380 to 680 nm, providing bright illumination of the visible wavelengths you need with no unwanted UV or Near IR to compromise your experiment.
Like all Lumencor light engines, the SOLA SM is extremely stable with less than 2% drift over 24 hours of continuous operation. Warmup time is essentially instantaneous, with stabilized output achieved in 1 second with the flip of a switch or a tap of the foot-pedal.
Simplicity of operation and stable, long-term use were primary goals of the SOLA SM light engine design. This is an arc lamp replacement that boasts all the advantages of solid-state sources. Why would anyone use an arc lamp when the SOLA SM produces more light with less power, requires no maintenance, generates very little heat and is highly efficient in a compact design? The SOLA SM light engine is an economical choice because bulbs don’t need to be replaced, power consumption is low and the working lifetime of the product far exceeds that of a lamp.
Included with the SOLA SM is a foot-pedal switch, power cord and a 3 mm diameter liquid light guide. Not included are the dangerous doses of mercury and other hazardous materials found in metal halide and mercury bulbs which pollute our air, land and water.
While SOLA SM is very simple to operate, be assured it is also very powerful. Expect 3-4 watts of visible light pumped through the light guide, giving ample intensity for the most demanding microscope applications.
Sola SE Light Engine™
Lumencor offers a true arc lamp replacement with the release of the SOLA SE Light Engine. The SOLA SE produces continuous white light from 380 to 680 nm and is suitable for imaging all the most common fluorophores and fluorescent proteins.
SOLA SE offers the end user an affordable solid state alternative as an arc lamp replacement. The SOLA SE light engine can be controlled by every microscopy software in the marketplace. It offers unprecedented access to solid state illumination at a price comparable to most metal halide light sources used in a host of life science equipment including fluorescence microscopes.
Lumencor preserves performance in the form of powerful, cool, stable, robust, UV- and IR-free light and now allows the user simple integration with existing filter cubes and hardware configurations. This additional flexibility allows individual users, core facilities and OEMs a superior solid state excitation subsystem. Power exceeds most spectral bands of the arc lamps while cost and wavelength range are on par with traditional arc lamps.
Customers will never again have to worry about arc lamp alignment, installation and replacement. The expected lifetime of the SOLA SE is greater than 20,000 hours. Short warm-up time and superior stability mean these are all usable hours with highly reproducible output power. Units ship with a three year warranty covering any failures with the light engine including parts and labor.
The SOLA SE can be integrated with high end cameras. In so doing, they enable light blanking during frame readout. This prolongs sample life and minimizes photobleaching during sample illumination.
